My Success Affirmations Today I am born anew. Today is the most important day of my life because it represents the glorious and first day of my new life. I now understand that I alone control my destiny, my success or my failure in this wondrous world of opportunity. Am I now capable, too, of greatness and fortune like those highly successful individuals I have learned about? For now I truly understand that I can accomplish anything I carefully program into my mind. Does not the immigrant cherish fully the American opportunity, knowing they must succeed and that failure is not an option in their newfound world? I will adopt a similar burning desire, and I will excel. I am born anew. For now I realize that I am the greatest miracle in the world, unique to anyone ever born. No longer will I count the obstacles and drawbacks in my life. I now realize that, like the inventor who welcomes each new failure on the road to victory, so, too, shall I. For now I understand that each failure only brings me closer to the success I know will be mine. Never again will I allow self-pity, doubt, or negativity to penetrate my new power-mind, protected by a new negativity-shield, for now I realize that 80 percent of all talk and actions around me will be negative. I now realize that negativity has been around since the caveman, and yet successful people always prevailed. I, too, shall prevail. I, too, will stand out from the crowd. I am a king and the world is my new kingdom, for now I realize that the knowledge I possess is worth more than all the riches of the world. Today I possess an immense knowledge of how to change my life forever. It is a true celebration indeed because now I realize that the best is yet to be. Just like the wind that graces the earth, never will I look back. Never will I revisit yesterday’s problems and heartaches. They are dead. I will always look forward with a newfound, childlike excitement and energy. Never again will I allow my life to be likened to a casino game of chance because I now understand that I alone take full responsibility for my results along the long road to success, and I vow to apply the principles I have learned along the way. It is a joy to travel the long road to success. I will savor every step, enjoying the rough as well as the easy road I encounter. Today and everyday forward I will welcome each new day as a blessing from above, and I vow never again to squander such a precious gift, knowing that the richest king can never buy one more day of life. It is truly a gift from the Creator and shall never again be wasted. Enthusiasm, I have learned, is contagious. And I know that if I project an enthusiastic, positive attitude to all whom I encounter each day, they, too, will be enthused and will spread it to others. And like all wealth shared with love, it no doubt will inspire me all the more. I realize that I have choices in life: I can feel happy, or I can feel sad. I can act positive, or I can act in a negative manner. I can succeed greatly, or I can settle for failure as an end result. I can love all others I encounter, or carry around baggage of doom and gloom and aversion. I choose to be different, to stand out and set an example that others will admire and want to emulate. This is my new life. I am like a newborn, pure in heart and mind from prejudice, hatred, failure, or fear. And like a newborn, full of life and hope, I now understand that I, too, am unspoiled now in my mind. I now possess the great knowledge of the ages. For now I know that the mind controls the body, and the subconscious controls the conscious. As long as I feed the subconscious mind good, pure, and positive thoughts, the subconscious will radiate like the rays of the sun, thus renewing, invigorating, and warming me each day like the powerful rays of the sun. For this little-known secret of my subconscious is now part of my life, part of my daily routine. And with each new day that I take a breath of air, I, too, will begin it with positive self-suggestion statements. My newfound positive-attitude shield will protect me from the arrows of negativity that kill off the spirit and drive off so many other people. I am different; I am new. I will apply the newfound knowledge I possess. No longer will that negativity seep into my mind. I will not allow negativity to affect the computer-mind God gave me. I was born to be great. Greatness is my destiny. From this day forward I will never again worry, for now I know that 92 percent of all worry is useless, self-defeating, and draining. Like the seasons that change, I now understand that my emotions, too, change, and though I may not feel as happy one day, I know that in a day or two I could possibly be ecstatic. Like the cycles of the world, emotions change, and now my newfound knowledge is power I will be able to use. With love in my eyes and heart, I will greet everyone I meet with sincere kindness. For now I understand that love alone will soften the coldest hearts of enemies and friends alike. And if I am to help others along the road to success, I must set an example of pure love and inspiration for all to follow. My new attitude will be my shield that will protect me from the dreaded arrows of negativity that kill off the spirit and drive off so many others. I am now different; I am new; I am driven. And as someone who loves himself, I now vow to allow only good things to enter my mind and body, and to eliminate anything harmful from affecting me. I will ignore the surrounding negativity and indulgences that can harm this masterpiece-body that I have been born with. I now know that I am the greatest work of art in the world, a masterpiece that no money can ever duplicate. I now vow that each new day will be carefully unwrapped and savored for the precious gift it represents. And in the end, I will know that I have made my Creator proud of what I have accomplished, and I will be able to look back, knowing that I have set a truly inspiring example and have made a lasting, positive difference in this great world of ours. http://www.amazon.com/Power-Being-Different-success-ebook/dp/B002C75GY4/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1297365248&sr=1-1

“KEEPING IT ALL IN PERSPECTIVE” (from my book: The Power Of Being Different) "Here is something that appeared in Harper’s Weekly: ‘It’s a gloomy moment in the history of our country. Not in the lifetime of most men has there been so much grave and deep apprehension. The domestic economic situation is in chaos. The dollar is weak around the world. Prices are so high as to be utterly impossible. The political caldron seethes and bubbles with uncertainty. Russia hangs as usual like a cloud – dark and silent upon the horizon. It’s a solemn moment. Of our troubles, no man can see the end.’ Does that sound familiar? Well, that article was written in October 1857, just four years before the Civil War. There were poor crops, bank closures, social problems, business failures and government debts.” There will always be negative situations, events, and attitudes surrounding you. The world and the people in it are not perfect. Negatives can become “good” or “useful,” if those negatives motivate you to change your negatives into positive results and to accomplish something great. Negativity always has to be kept in proper prospective. Learning to overcome life’s problems and setbacks will help you to reach a new greatness. Strive to be different and greater than your setbacks. Does the average person give in to defeat and negativity? How can you be different? How can you be successful? Start by minimizing the attention you give to worrying. There’s a great saying: “Don’t sweat the small stuff, and it’s all small stuff.” Abundance of Opportunities Consider, too, how times have improved over the centuries. If you lived in the 1700s, it might take you three days to go 300 miles. It’s no wonder that many people grew up living and dying in the same general area where they were born, having seldom traveled. Ben Franklin was different. At the early age of seventeen, he set out to find a life for himself. He left Boston, his birthplace, and hitched aboard a ship headed to New York, a very rough three-day trip in his day. Unable to secure work, he moved on to Philadelphia, where he started his new life. Today, you can simply take a jet plane to a warm climate within hours. It’s a better life by far than what life was like two or three hundred years ago. Also, what we consider toys today, were unthinkable fifty years ago. Today you can buy your son or daughter a $1,000 computer toy. Some toy! If you wanted to, you could drive a car from New York to beautiful Florida. You have the freedom to travel. Nice country, America, isn’t it? You don’t have to ask permission to leave your home. There is no immediate threat of attack from a foreign country; no tanks are in our streets fighting a war. I imagine this is the best time in the history of America when there has been this much freedom and money so easy to come by. Today is a great time to be alive. You can go or do almost anything you wish. I know people who quit their jobs and take off for months to do whatever they want, while they live off their savings. You have the freedom and the opportunity to choose to do whatever you wish, at anytime you wish to do it. Few other countries in the world offer you as many opportunities to be great and to excel as America does. In 1915, you had to be rich to own an automobile. Now, some families have four cars, most of which are fairly new. We have food in such abundance in this country; so much so that obesity is becoming a severe problem. There are fast food restaurants providing meals for only ninety-nine cents. Food is affordable. With the abundance of opportunities around us, what you do with your life is entirely up to you. Thousands of people are risking their lives to cross the border illegally to have the same opportunities we have. So many obstacles have been moved out of the way for you. As the Army states, you can “be all that you can be,” but you need to acquire an all-consuming “desire” for whatever you want. Your subconscious mind has the power to do the rest to help your conscious mind carry forth its goal. So, learn to use your mind as a filter in a positive way. All the great inventors have learned to do this. They had to filter out all the negative comments, influences and defeatist attitudes that surround them every day. Edison had to get past the derision of others to perfect the light bulb. He could have chosen to give up on his inventions and be an average person, but would we have the electric light bulb today? What are you capable of? Will your new accomplishments influence others and maybe the whole world?" But never any killing. There are no ties between him and Hagerstown at all. He’s been in and out of prison since age seventeen, never holds down a job, but never shot up a gas station and police officer before. So, he’s now graduated to a new level of threat and is armed and now extremely dangerous. “Why me?” “Well, he clearly thinks you have leads on the murders of 1923, and he is either protecting someone connected somehow to the murders, or someone hired him to take you out. Keep in mind that he isn’t trying to spook you; rather, he wants you six feet under. And remember, Felicia may also be a target, and anyone else you chum up with until you come to your senses and leave us all alone in our normally boring little town. Either you are very stupid or you want to be a front-page martyr in your own newspaper. But stop risking other people’s lives in Hagerstown!” “I’ll be gone soon, Sarge.” “Maybe in a body bag,” he laughed coldly. “Well, I want to get on the road to the farm, if it’s all right with you.” “Not so fast, bubba. We have to look that car of yours over real well before you take off in it.” "What?” “You heard me right. To a killer, that car could be an extended weapon. A way for them to murder you without touching you directly.” “I see.” “I don’t think you really do, but I’ll explain on the way.” The sergeant explained that killers can rig a car to blow up when the ignition switch is activated. “Okay, my car is right in back of the hotel, in the parking lot. It’s the red Malibu late model with some damage on the bumper.” “Oh, you’re a drunk driver, too?” “Not exactly, though I do drink a little too much. No, I got rear-ended by a Lincoln Navigator the other day.” “Oh, so you’re one of those heavy-footed brake drivers?” “You think I stopped short and caused my own accident? What, are you crazy?” I yelled, now frustrated. The sergeant made his way over to my car and started to get under it and look around. He walked all around the car, noticing the damage from the accident, then looked me up and down, sizing me up. “Okay, it was my fault, the accident,” I laughed. He squinted at me, then moved on. For a solid five minutes he inspected my car, opening the doors, looking inside and under the seats. He popped the hood and looked at everything inside. “See, I told you everything is fine, Sergeant,” I said. “Who wants to screw around with a Chevy Malibu?” The sergeant promptly radioed in a request for a tow truck to pick up the car. “Oh, hold on there, Sergeant Pawler. You can’t do that!” “Oh, please excuse me, Mr. Gerhani,” he said sarcastically. “Listen here, Gerhani, I am ordered by Captain Krolm to keep your ass safe. It’s not something I want to do, but I must. So, until you take your sorry ass out of my town and go back to the most corrupt city in the world, you’re stuck with me. Get it?” he snarled. “Oh, I got it, all right!” In five minutes the tow truck pulled up. I realized it was Wally from Wally’s, the station he owns, and where Brian was hurt by Billy Blaine. “Are you in trouble again?” Wally joked. “What, are you stuck?” Pawler took control of the conversation, and Wally quickly attached my car to the lift on the tow truck. “Sergeant, I’ll give it a good going-over back at the shop. We’ll see if anything is out of whack,” Wally said. We drove behind Wally back to the station, where he had my car up on the lift within a few minutes. The station was relatively empty except for the occasional gas customer passing through. It was nice to see that Brian Fawlta, the gas station attendant, had returned to work. He told me that he was back to normal except for a large bump on the back of his head that was taking its time to go away. “How’s the story going?” he asked excitedly. I told him very little, mostly just about Lolita and the nursing home. “I never went in that nursing home yet,” he said. All I could do was be happy for Brian because a nursing home can be a very depressing place to visit. The residents are making the best of the hand they have been dealt in life, but being exposed to all that sickness, I feel, can be deflating to young people who are always so gung-ho about life. On the other hand, some people feel that young people should be exposed to the sick and elderly in order to be awakened to the brevity of life and encouraged to make the most of their time. Isn’t it great that there are always at least two points of view for any scenario? Strong arguments for any side you may be taking. Wally worked at inspecting my car as if the president were going to be riding in it, while Pawler looked on and Brian bent my ear. “So, how long you staying? Oh, and I heard there was a shooting at the police station by that Billy Blaine creep.” “Yeah, Brian, you believe that hard-on, Blaine, shooting an officer in the station house? That’s real big balls!” “It’s all been in the papers, you know. Shame you didn’t write the stories. They even wrote about someone trying to run you down. Think it was Blaine, Lou?” We spoke for a few minutes more. I found out that Brian was going to night school. He wanted to be an architect. I commended him on his choice, telling him to stick it out and that it is far better to choose a career that uses your brain rather than your body, as a body will break down and become less reliable as one ages; eventually it’ll get hard to continue with merely muscle instead of brains. He listened intently, again putting me on a pedestal, as many in his town had done. Except, of course, for Billy Blaine and the town’s law enforcement. Wally had motioned for Pawler and me to come closer, underneath the car raised on the lift. I looked first at the lift, then at my car, and then I slowly made my way under the middle of the raised vehicle. I was always paranoid about extremely heavy objects raised right above my head. I hoped Wally would talk fast. I couldn’t take another hit in the head, I thought. “Lou,” Wally began, “someone clearly wants you dead. I’ve seen many instances of someone putting the fear of God in someone by modifying and rigging something on a person’s vehicle, but here someone wanted to do you in for sure!” “So, Sergeant Pawler was correct,” I said, as I looked apologetically at Pawler, then at Wally, and waited. “Oh, he was right on!” Wally smiled. “Gerhani, I thought back at the hotel parking lot I saw a drop of brake fluid on a rear brake line, so as a precaution I had the vehicle pulled in without anyone starting it up,” Pawler said." ****FREE PAPERBACK TO THE FIRST FIVE PEOPLE THAT EMAIL JOHN CARINCI****

Understanding the Brain Better

The human brain is a remarkable organ. I have thought long and hard that one day a human brain can be harvested out of a dying body and made to think and communicate in some form. Many experts say that the brain is one of the most complicated things available to mankind. So, little is really know, even to this day, about the real workings of the human brain. It has been estimated that the brain can process information in speeds as fast as 268 miles per hour. Researchers have found that those who are clinically depressed have abnormal levels of serotonin and norepinephrine, important brain chemicals. It is noted that flaws in serotonin levels have been linked to suicide attempts and aggression. The human brain produces over sixty different kinds of chemicals, and there are about 100,000 chemical reactions that happen in the brain every second The important thing to remember is this: the thoughts we have, the food we eat, and the drugs we take all have an effect on the chemicals in our brains. There was a study done on the brain and pain by a dental university, where volunteers were subjected with jaw pain, and carefully monitored for release of brain chemicals, and then measured for pain relief. Those volunteers who had pain introduced to their jaws, were shown to have released chemicals in response to the pain. The brain chemistry response to the subjected pain was strongest in the brain regions where sensation and emotion are rooted. So, then, why can’t we control pain more easily with the power of our subconscious minds? Why can’t we train our brains to turn off the pain receptors in a given part of our bodies? What if we try to feed the subconscious mind instructions and commands, on a consistent and believable basis, to improve chronic pain? Is it possible? I say yes! Let’s try a few self-suggestion statements I would use: “My mind controls the body, so I know my mind can control my pain, therefore I command you to stop the pain in my knee by releasing the proper mixture of chemicals.” This was just a sample that I would use in my own case. You can use something like: “The pain in my back can be relieved by my brain, and I am asking my brain to release the pain relief that will help my back.” I believe that if one were to work on it long and hard, they could control most, if not all of their chronic pain. I wish there was a current study that we could review now. “I consider that a man’s brain originally is like a little empty attic, and you have to stock it with such furniture as you choose. A fool takes in all the lumber of every sort that he comes across, so that the knowledge which might be useful to him gets crowded out, or at best is jumbled up with a lot of other things, so that he has a difficulty in laying his hands upon it. Now the skillful workman is very careful indeed as to what he takes into his brain-attic. He will have nothing but the tools which may help him in doing his work, but of these he has a large assortment, and all in the most perfect order. It is a mistake to think that that little room has elastic walls and can distend to any extent. Depend upon it—there comes a time when for every addition of knowledge you forget something that you knew before. It is of the highest importance, therefore, not to have useless facts elbowing out the useful ones.” —Arthur Conan Doyle “The companies that survive longest are the ones that work out what they uniquely can give to the world—not just growth or money but their excellence, their respect for others, or their ability to make people happy. Some call those things a soul.” —Charles Handy “All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible.” —T. E. Lawrence Life with No Regrets Each morning, I awake to the light that shines through a large six foot Palladian window in my bedroom. While in my bed and slowly waking to the new day, I repeat the same following statement, “Thank you, Lord, for this glorious and new day. I don’t know why I have been given this gift of a new day when others, far smarter and more gifted than I have been taken away from this world. Others, who have contributed much more to mankind than I have not been offered this precious day. “I vow to make the most of this new and exciting day. I will not waste this special gift you have given. I vow also to be kinder and gentler to all I see today. I will do more today than yesterday. I know that tomorrow is not guaranteed to the richest king, so I must work with what I have. I will not let you down, Lord, in giving me this new day of life. This will be the best day of my life. And, if I’m fortunate to have another day, I vow that it will be even better.” There are more positive self-suggestions for your subconscious. Always try to keep your brain working on the positive. Never stop the positive statements. The fear of wasting my God-given talents drives me forward and keeps me wanting to be productive and successful. Mitch Albom wrote a wonderful non-fiction book called Tuesdays with Morrie. It touched me very deeply, so much so, that I had to reread it several times. I learned so much by delving into the mind of a 78-year-old professor, Morrie, dealing with the death sentence he faced, fighting ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Morrie, in the book, explains life and its wonders to us as he faces death with dignity. In the following excerpt from the book, Morrie is asked about dealing with growing old: “Weren’t you ever afraid to grow old, I asked.” “Mitch, I embrace aging.” “Embrace it?” “It’s very simple. As you grow, you learn more. If you stayed at twenty-two, you’d always be as ignorant as you were at twenty-two. Aging is not just decay, you know. It’s growth. It’s also the positive that you understand you’re going to die, and that you live a better life because of it.” “Yes,”, I said, “but if aging were so valuable, why do people always say, “Oh, if I were young again.” You never hear people say, “I wish I were sixty-five.” He smiled. “You know what that reflects? Unsatisfied lives. Lives that haven’t found meaning. Because if you’ve found meaning in your life, you don’t want to go back. You want to go forward. You want to see more, do more. You can’t wait until sixty-five.” What a wakeup call after reading Morrie’s words. I also saw the movie about Morrie. My neighbor, directly across the street from me, died from ALS disease. The man was in his sixties, and worked tirelessly around his home. When I insured his life with a life insurance policy he was given the best rating for health that anyone could receive. So it was a complete shock for me to find out years later that this man had a death sentence of ALS. I watched him slowly die, and his body parts stop working one after the other. I could see him being wheeled in and out of his home daily from my office window across the street. Within two years he passed on. The only thing that he could do in his last days was to speak. It woke me up to appreciate life as a blessing, not a right. It made me accelerate my efforts towards writing, business, life, and vacation time. No matter what medical procedure they tried for my neighbor, nothing ever worked. I witnessed the destruction of a very strong man, slowly wasted down to nothing. Life, I believe, shows us these sad things, as a way to wake us up, and motivate us to act now. My goal here is to motivate you to act now, help yourself, and help motivate others. I feel that enthusiasm is contagious, and when you work at motivating someone else to help themself, you actually help yourself. So try to help someone in need today, someone who may not be able to easily help themselves at that particular moment due to many reasons. Excerpt From The New Action Adventure : DEFYING DEATH IN HAGERSTOWN

(excerpt from the new action novel: “Defying Death In Hagerstown”: As I exited the news building, the day’s activity and stress finally hit me. I was exhausted, mentally more than physically. My legs felt like they had heavy weights attached, and my back felt like I had just played a full game of football against the Dallas Cowboys. The air was warm and breezy as I crossed the street to where my car was parked. My mind was working overtime in calculations and thoughts of the entire day, of murder victims, of Lolita, and my newfound acquaintances who had been so helpful in my investigation. As I crossed the empty and dead-quiet street, a dark car suddenly swerved toward me with a screech of tires that shocked me to attention. My eyes quickly focused on the vehicle, tires smoking as it raced right at me. The split second I had to think convinced me that I was a dead man. My first reaction was to run, but tired feet cannot outrun a car gunned full-out with a head of steam. Before I could move a muscle, I heard a loud slapping sound of hands, arms, body; I saw bright lights . . . and then total blackness. It’s amazing how fast a calculation the human brain can make in a life-or-death situation, convincing the person in that tenth of a second that their chances of surviving their current severe situation are almost zero percent. My situation was no different. My mind came up with me hitting a half-billion-dollar lottery faster than surviving that oncoming car. The darkness quickly turned bright, and I saw my mother and deceased father as they looked when they had just been married. They were smiling at me as they were illuminated in very bright light, as if a spotlight was shining on them. All I could do was stare. No words were spoken; there was just brightness, happiness, calmness, and peace— perfectly quiet peace. Heavenly, I thought, and then, Me? Heaven? Now? No way! But if this isn’t heaven, what is it? We all hear about tunnels of bright light, of relatives greeting the new arrivals, and some convincing the person who’s near death that it isn’t their time yet and they must go back. I waited, but there was no sign, no communication, no tunnel, and no movement. Just peace and quiet like I’d never experienced before. Then suddenly, the bright light grew brighter, blinding, as my parents disappeared and were replaced with just pure light. I wasn’t scared or worried about hell or heaven. I didn’t want to wake up, or go back home, or do anything but bask in the glorious bright light and perfect silence—a silence I had always yearned for but had never found, a silence that solved all the problems of the world. Maybe this is it! I thought, hoping that heaven was waiting for me. But suddenly I heard a noise that shattered the silence, though I couldn’t decipher the sounds or even where they were coming from. They grew louder, and the light grew intensely bright in my eyes. Louder still, a man’s voice spoke: “Okay . . . it’s okay . . . .” My eyes slowly opened and focused on a man with a beard—a doctor. excerpt from the self help book: Awesome Success Principles and Quotations) Never Lose Your Hope and Faith Hope is that precious commodity that can fuel our drive. It can give us the intense courage to persevere through any struggle. In 1994 Sara Eberhardt was a three year old girl. Her mother had taken the little girl to her doctor for a checkup. The doctor gave the mother some very bad news. The doctor diagnosed the girl with cancer in both of her kidneys. But because of advances in medical technology, and specifically in cancer treatments, this little girl was given a special new form of chemotherapy, administered through a port just above her heart. The girl received a mind boggling 65 weeks of chemotherapy, radiation treatments, and also a surgery to remove a kidney. But amazingly this girl beat the cancer and thrived. Many years later the survivor is a senior at Winona State University in Minnesota, and an outstanding volunteer for Relay For Life. She said: “From the little girl who was diagnosed with kidney cancer, to the strong-willed American Cancer Society volunteer I am today. I’m standing tall, as an 18-year cancer survivor, ready to finish the fight against cancer!” Hospital Window “Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room’s only window. The other man had to spend all his time on his back. The men talked for hours on end. They began by telling each other about their illnesses but, eventually, their talks became more intimate as they spoke of their wives and families, their homes, jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation and other personal matters. Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window. The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside. “This window overlooks a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans play on the water while children sail their model boats.” the man by the window said. “Young lovers walk arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline can be seen in the distance.” While the man by the window described this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene. His smile growing with every new piece of detail told to him. One afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although, the other man couldn’t hear the band, any commotion or excitement --- he could see it. In his mind’s eye, as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words. Days, weeks and months went by as this became a daily routine. Small chitchat and an hour of the view of the outside world. One morning, the day nurse entered the room to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened but called the hospital attendants to take the body away. As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch and after making sure he was comfortable, she began straightening up the room. Slowly and painfully, the man propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside that he had heard so much about. He strained to slowly look out the window. It faced a blank wall. The man was confused and somewhat disappointed. He looked forward to seeing all the wonderful things his roommate had described to him. The park, the lake, the ducks, and swans. None of that could be seen from the bedside window. Feeling a little frustrated the man asked the nurse, “What could have compelled my roommate to lie to me like he did? He described such wonderful things outside this window but nothing he spoke of can be seen. All that is visible is that ugly grey blank wall. Why did he lie to me?” “Didn’t he tell you?” the nurse responded, “He was blind so he couldn’t see the wall. But maybe he described such wonderful things because they were visions in his mind and he wanted to encourage you?’ The man laid back on his bed and let out a sigh as he softly said, “Yes, that he did.” Then he whispered to himself, “Thank you for sharing your wonderful world, my friend.” --Author Unknown “If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging.” --Romans 12.8 “I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge. That myth is more potent than history. That dreams are more powerful than facts. That hope always triumphs over experience. That laughter is the only cure for grief. And I believe that love is stronger than death.” --Robert Fulghum On the subject of hope and happiness, in his book, Long Time No See, Dr. No-Yong Park writes, “Here’s a statement of what a Korean boy thought happiness meant to him. It appeared in one of Abigail Van Buren’s columns: ‘Happiness is no longer having to roam the streets of Seoul, begging for food, sleeping in doorways and under bridges or being cold, hungry or dirty. Happiness is having an American believe in me enough to take me in, give me my first real meal in years, buy my first pair of socks, and leather shoes, and underwear, and give me a bed where I could sleep between sheets, let me see my first TV and give me the first security I have ever known. Happiness means being adopted and coming to the United States. Happiness is the opportunity to attend school again for the first time in three years. Happiness is becoming an American citizen and making my new parents proud of me.’” “When you have lost hope, you have lost everything. And when you think all is lost, when all is dire and bleak, there is always hope.” --Pittacus Lore I Wanted To Change the World “When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world. I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation. When I found I couldn’t change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn’t change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family. Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. My family and I could have made an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world.” --Author: unknown monk around 1100 AD “Hope knows no fear. Hope dares to blossom even inside the abysmal abyss. Hope secretly feeds and strengthens promise.” --Sri Chinmoy Thomas Edison Edison had a great quote that most people never read. When interviewed by Success Magazine in 1898 Thomas Edison was asked, “What’s the first requisite for success?” And Edison answered this way: “The ability to apply your physical and mental energies to one problem incessantly without growing weary. You do something all day long, don’t you? Everyone does. If you get up at 7 a.m. and go to bed at 11 p.m., you have put in 16 good hours, and it is certain with most men that they have been doing something all the time. The only trouble is that they do it about a great many things and I do it about one. If they took the time in question and applied it in one direction, to one object they would succeed.” Dorothea Brand, author of Wake Up and Live, said, “All that is necessary to break the spell of frustration and inertia is this, act as if it were impossible to fail. That’s the talisman, the formula, the right about face that runs us from failure to success.” W. Clement Stone said, “Do what you’re afraid to do. When you run away because you are afraid to do something big, you pass opportunity by.” “Many men fail because they quit too soon. They lose faith when the signs are against them. They do not have the courage to hold on, to keep fighting in spite of that which seems insurmountable. If more of us would strike out and attempt the ‘impossible’, we very soon would find the truth of that old saw that nothing is impossible.... Abolish fear and you can accomplish anything you wish.” --Dr. C.E. Latest Self Help book: AWESOME SUCCESS PRINCIPLES AND QUOTATIONS

**What's It All About Alfie?** we step back and look at life closely:
(from my NEW published self help book) "AWESOME SUCCESS PRINCIPLES"
" It seems like everyone's life today is so busy. It's like we're all riding on an out of control train that is speeding down a track, so fast we can't get off. N...o one seems to have any spare time for anything, its rush here and rush there. People drive so fast these days, not because they are late, but rather they have too much going on in their lives.
People wonder, "What's It All About Alfie?" What am I doing here? What is my purpose? And what happens after life on earth?
I study people closely. Many people today seem uncertain, frustrated and scared about the times we are in. They are looking for answers. Religion of any kind can help.
I Believe
I have my own strong beliefs. I believe in God. I believe that we were all created to be great. Some of us along the way have gotten off track with our thinking, but we can once again get back in the game.
I believe that we were each put on earth to make a difference of some kind. We were put here to help, to be a positive influence, and touch other lives. We are here to give back, not to keep taking. To lift someone up and never tear them down.
I believe that life on earth is very short. Shorter than what the average age of 85 works out to be in our minds. In other words, eternity is what we will ultimately have after life on earth.
I believe that we are given the opportunity to build a life here on earth, and one day we each will have to make a full accounting of that life, answering completely.
What if, my beliefs hold true? What if we all get to spend an eternity in the hereafter with all our loved ones? What if we get to review in precise detail, with our loved ones, each second of our lives? We have a scorecard here on earth, one most of us seem to ignore. But what if I am right, and we have to explain all of our actions, achievements, good deeds, charity, and help extended to others? What if?
I believe that everything on earth happens for a reason. Though sometimes sad things in life are very hard to understand and explain, they are here for our learning. When a child dies so young. When I come across a paralyzed man named Ken, who has been in a wheelchair for over 20 years, and can't move most of his body, it is for a reason. When I hear just the other day that a 36 year old woman, eight months pregnant, is run down and killed in a parking lot by a plow removing snow, and the baby is delivered, but may be brain damaged.
When I lose a school friend of mine Gil, who dies in a car accident, at age 19, and I have to deliver my first insurance death claim as a first year life insurance agent. It is all for a reason. I believe.
I believe that everything that happens on earth is God's plan to help us stay on track. To remind us that life on earth is but a second in time compared to the eternity we will all have after our life here is closed, and the diaries of our lives are each passed up to the place we will consider Heaven.
My belief is strong, but it is my own belief. It gives me peace. It drives me forward, motivating me to do more, to be more, to help more. But more than anything, I believe, with all my heart, that all my loved ones that have passed are rooting loudly for me in the hereafter. I believe I have an audience that I will once again be reunited with. But, I mostly believe that my biggest fan, from above, is God, and I cannot, I dare not disappoint Him. He created greatness when you and I were born, I will not insult him by giving Him back anything but greatness in return.

This is a fiction work that was inspired totally by accident, when the author won a diary on Ebay, penned in 1923, by a young woman. The diary of 365 pages, 1923, was fully handwritten, but the woman was only known as Lolita. I knew there was a story there somewhere, but more importantly the author was drawn into the time, the young woman, the love interest she had throughout the year.

Defying Death In Hagerstown:

We have a young Washington, newspaper reporter, who is rapidly self- destructing, after a bad breakup with his Fiancée, who left him for a young doctor. He's drinking, a real mess at work, and ready to be fired. His last chance assignment is to go to Hagerstown, Md. and interview a centenarian wonder woman of 110 years old, named Lolita, who resides in a Hagerstown nursing home.

All the reporter complains about is that this is an assignment from hell, and this woman is probably senile.

We later find out that Lolita is sharp as a tack, and the most philosophical person to come around in many years, someone everyone flocks to for life changing advise.

The reporter also learns that there exists a diary from 1923, a full years, handwritten out, that gives a real insight to what life was like for the old woman.

But he further learns that Lolita, in 1923, lived through a mass murder spree of 3 of her young girlfriends in Hagerstown that still was unsolved. The reporter sees a real story in the murders, and is consumed with investigating and solving this 90 year old mystery. But someone in Hagerstown is rattled by his nosing around, and bullets fly, and someone is killed.

The old diary comes into play again as the reporter tries to stay alive long enough to save his job, solve the mass murders, right a wrong, and fall deeper in love with the beautiful gray eyed Felicia, the nurse that tends to Lolita.

NEW SELF HELP BOOK: Awesome Suuccess Principles & Quotations, by John Paul Carinci now on AMAZON

"SUCCESS THROUGH A POSITIVE MENTOR" - article written in 1997 tells of how one man and a self help book changed my life at age 21, forever, and influenced me to write my own self help books many years later, so I could help others.
Now some 38 years after that chance meeting my own books have been published worldwide.
"Although it has been over twenty years, I can still remember my first year in the Insurance Business. It was the same year that I had the immense pleasure of meeting an extremely inspiring man named, Bob Richards.
My life Insurance career started with Chubb Colonial Life, on January 10, 1977. At age 21, I was by far the youngest Agent of my District office. The Insurance business was difficult for me in my first year. But somehow I made enough sales, on a pro-rata basis, to be invited to the company Sales Convention in May of 1977.
The company spring sales convention was held at Host Farm Pa.. Although I had not been with the company from the start of the qualification period, I was still thrilled to be allowed to qualify, based on only my few months of sales production.
The most exciting part of the Sales Convention, for me, was the meeting, that featured the special guest speaker; Bob Richards. Bob Richards was the Olympic champion track star, from the 1950's, who's picture graced the front of the Wheaties cereal box for 14 years. Bob, amazingly, won two Olympic Gold Medals, and one Olympic Silver Medal, in the
Pole Vault competition.
I can vividly remember, sitting in a large auditorium with the many other Agents, and Home Office personnel, waiting for the famous Bob Richards to speak.
As Bob Richards walked onto, and moved to center stage, he picked up a microphone and said; "Good Morning"! And with that, he abruptly put the microphone down on the floor, and moved it to the far side of the stage.
Despite the size of this large auditorium, this dynamic, energized, motivational speaker did not need a microphone.
Without it, his voice easily boomed over and filled the entire room. I can not remember exactly, what he spoke about, but when his session was over, I was super charged with his electrified enthusiasm. So much so, that I just had to go up to this man, and shake his hand.
I waited on line for approximately ten minutes to speak to Bob Richards. After I thanked him for his fine seminar, we spoke briefly. Mr. Richards asked me what my position with Chubb Colonial life was, I answered, "oh I am just an Agent."
With that Bob Richards said, "you must never, ever say that you are just an Agent, John, you are very important to this Company. John I want you to read a book as soon as you go home, all right?" "Of course Mr. Richards," was my response.
Bob Richards asked me to purchase, and read a book entitled; "Success Through A Positive Mental Attitude."
It was a positive self-help book, written by Napolean Hill, and W. Clement Stone. The book is published by; Prentice Hall in 1960.
I was only 21 years old at the time, and not very successful. I was still very unsure whether the Insurance business would be a long term career for me.
Of course, the moment I got home, I ran out to the local book store and purchased "Success Through A Positive Mental Attitude." And a strange thing happened. I just couldn't put this book down. Chapter after chapter, revealed intriguing, and inspiring stories, of rags to riches, and failures that became tremendous successes. These actual stories and insights, into the personal encounters of various individuals, that magically transformed their lives into successes, was just what a 21 year old struggling salesman needed.
The rest is history. My attitude improved tremendously. My confidence was lifted to new heights. I realized for the first time, that I was not merely selling policies, but I was helping families by guaranteeing their financial future, and the future of their children.
I slowly and systematically became a self confident power house. Where nothing, nor no one, could put out the fire of enthusiasm that was burning inside of me.
Never looking back, and only moving ahead. Not caring at all about money, although I was earning more, and more, every passing week. My sales was pushing me right to the top of the Production Sales Report. Even though I had no interest in Sales Reports, and I was only concerned with helping more families to protect their future. I had managed to help
myself, by helping others. It didn't even feel like work, to me, at this point.
From an Agent, I was promoted to a Sales Manager, in charge of a staff of Agents. Then from a Sales Manager, I was promoted to the District Manager. And at age 27, I now was the youngest District Manager ever, for Chubb Colonial Life, and running the entire Agency. As a District Manager, our Agency was always near the top of the company's sales charts
of leading Agencies.
The personal insights of those great men, such as Henry Ford, Edison, Einstein, Fuller, and Milo C. Jones, of Jones Pork Sausages, encouraged and inspired me. It convinced me that I can be anything I truly desired. And even if I failed at something, I can transform any failure into a positive success, through a powerful concept I learned called; "Inspirational Dissatisfaction."
After 11 years of working my way up, and increasing my income substantially. The Company decided to close all their Career Agency offices. It was a business decision, directed at getting out of the Career agent part of the business.
Chubb Colonial fired all the District Managers, and Agents. They took back my company leased car, and gave us all our walking papers.
I could have easily followed most of the other Managers and Agents, and go to work for another major Insurance company, such as Prudential, or Metropolitan. But after giving 110% to Chubb Colonial. After passing up numerous Management job offers along the way, to stay with Chubb Life. Only to be terminated along with everyone else. I vowed never
to let that happen again.
In 1987, after being terminated as District Manager. After losing all my Agents and General Agents, and finally left with no producers at all, and no office, I vowed to start over, once again.
My goal, my burning desire was to start my very own Agency. Somewhere where no one could ever fire me. Where I made the rules, and I picked the products and companies I chose to deal with.
It was a difficult journey, this new Agency. I was starting again from no income at all. For the first time in years, I had to start selling again for myself, after years of management. But I was consumed, once again I was fully committed, with this burning desire, for ultimate success.
Twenty four hours a day my mind was in a marketing phase. Either thoughts of marketing to prospects, new brokers, or prospective Insurance companies.
In my mind, there was no way that I could fail, the only question was how fast would I achieve all of my goals.
Failure never entered my mind. Although the first year was very lean.
With paid as earned commissions, it takes over a year to receive the full commissions, after a case is written.
Now over a decade later, as I look back, our Agency is doing extremely well. Each year we have increased the sales over the year before, by convincing percentages. Even though the particular products and companies have dramatically changed, due to industry changes. We to, just keep realigning, our marketing plan. Always with that same basic
goal in mind. We must increase sales over the previous year, and we must share the wealth in the process.
It is not only the Agency that must reap the rewards, but we must also reward the Brokers that help us Achieve our goals. Always keeping in mind, that it is the Brokers that keeps our Agency in business.
We must cater to the broker, and we as an Agency must be different. After all, the Broker can place their business elsewhere. We must continually give them a reason to want to do their business with us.
Whether it be an advance commission, or maybe bending the commission percentage rules on a particular case. We must strive to, and stay unique and aggressive. Anyone can be the same. But if we can shock a Broker, by doing something wonderful and rewarding for them. Then they will very naturally encourage fellow Brokers, we don't know, to start
using us. It really is that simple.
We must always attract new Brokers, because if we don't, just merely attrition alone will shrink our sale force. No matter how good we are, some Brokers dissolve back into the regular work place, for many different reasons. So I realized years ago, never to put all our eggs into one basket.
Talking with Bob Richards for three minutes, many years ago, is something I will never forget. It is truly amazing,
how one person can change someone else's life, with just a little encouragement. Just change their attitude of mind, and you can change their entire life. We all have the ability to be much greater than we are. All we need is for someone to press the correct series of buttons.
Would I have been a success, without that magical meeting with Bob Richards, and absorbing the Success Through A Positive Mental Attitude book? I don't know. But I do know this, after learning about attitudes, after reading encounter, after encounter, of people changing their attitude and becoming extremely successful. After learning that; "one could alter their life, by altering their attitude of mind." It made it that much easier to become positive, to stay positive, and stay focused. Through all the ups and downs that life inevitably throws our way.
Thank you Bob Richards, for touching my life. I wonder just how many others you have touched. And how many of those, who have been touched, have in turn touched others.
I too will try to touch and encourage others in my life. As I feel that I have become a; "Success Through A Positive Mentor." written C- 1997 John Paul Carinci http://www.amazon.com/Awesome-Success-Principles-Quotations-Carinci-ebook/dp/B00MRLXK9S/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1413674984&sr=1-1&keywords=carinci

The Most Unique Action Adventure Mystery Novel Of The Decade - now available on KINDLE

This is a fiction work that was inspired totally by accident, when I won a diary on Ebay, penned in 1923, by a young woman. The diary of 365 pages, 1923, was fully handwritten, but the woman was only known as Lolita. I knew there was a story there somewhere, but more importantly I was drawn into the time, the young woman, the love interest she had throughout the year.
http://www.amazon.com/Defying-Death-Hagerstown-Morgan-Fiction-ebook/dp/B00ODIC26K/ref=sr_1_2?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1413602154&sr=1-2&keywords=carinci
I was CONSUMED with finding out who and whatever happened to this Lolita from Hagerstown Md. I took me years to find out who she was, that she married the love interest, and when she passed on.
SO, for my 9th book I wrote a fiction novel, Defying Death In Hagerstown, based on a character from Hagerstown, named Lolita.

As he reluctantly begins the assignment, he uncovers a 90 year old unsolved triple murder of three young women, that Lolita lived through, and a full diary from Lolita from 1923, the year of the murders.

Some Foreigners Maximize the all American Dream

Some Foreigners Maximize the all American Dream

America has always been called the land of opportunity.

Consider how many immigrants come to America today

knowing very little English and having limited formal

education and, yet, they have become successful. Most have

come to America with the right attitudes and the burning

desire to make their lives better and to succeed. I believe

many come believing they will be very successful, as long

as they work very hard.

You can understand why some immigrants are so

successful. Their minds are focused on the will to succeed.

They do not allow thoughts of failure to enter their minds.

The Power of Being Different

149

The immigrant is expected to make good and, ultimately,

he becomes something of a celebrity by all who know him

back home.

Failing to succeed in America for some immigrants is

tantamount to disgrace. To succeed is a matter of “Positive

Expectation.” Some people have great positive visualizations

of what they expect to achieve.

The next time you walk into a business establishment

and see a foreign business owner, just remember how long

and hard he has worked to get that business established. He

may have worked harder than an American citizen because

he had to overcome tremendous obstacles to come to this

country. As you look into his eyes, try to visualize the

dream that drove him to work so hard.

America, the land of opportunity.

"SUCCESS THROUGH A POSITIVE MENTOR"

"SUCCESS THROUGH A POSITIVE MENTOR" Written in 1997 tells of how one man and a self help book changed my life at age 21, forever, and influenced me to write my own self help books many years later, so I could help others. Now some 38 years after that chance meeting my own books have been published worldwide.
"Although it has been over twenty years, I can still remember my first year in the Insurance Business. It was the
same year that I had the immense pleasure of meeting an extremely inspiring man named, Bob Richards.
My life Insurance career started with Chubb Colonial Life, on January 10, 1977. At age 21, I was by far the
youngest Agent of my District office. The Insurance business was difficult for me in my first year. But somehow I made
enough sales, on a pro-rata basis, to be invited to the company Sales Convention in May of 1977.
The company spring sales convention was held at Host Farm Pa.. Although I had not been with the company from the start
of the qualification period, I was still thrilled to be allowed to qualify, based on only my few months of sales
production.
The most exciting part of the Sales Convention, for me, was the meeting, that featured the special guest speaker;
Bob Richards. Bob Richards was the Olympic champion track star, from the 1950's, who's picture graced the front of the
Wheaties cereal box for 14 years. Bob, amazingly, won two Olympic Gold Medals, and one Olympic Silver Medal, in the
Pole Vault competition.
I can vividly remember, sitting in a large auditorium with the many other Agents, and Home Office personnel,
waiting for the famous Bob Richards to speak.
As Bob Richards walked onto, and moved to center stage, he picked up a microphone and said; "Good Morning"! And with
that, he abruptly put the microphone down on the floor, and moved it to the far side of the stage.
Despite the size of this large auditorium, this dynamic, energized, motivational speaker did not need a microphone.
Without it, his voice easily boomed over and filled the entire room. I can not remember exactly, what he spoke about,
but when his session was over, I was super charged with his electrified enthusiasm. So much so, that I just had to go up
to this man, and shake his hand.
I waited on line for approximately ten minutes to speak to Bob Richards. After I thanked him for his fine seminar, we
spoke briefly. Mr. Richards asked me what my position with Chubb Colonial life was, I answered, "oh I am just an Agent."
With that Bob Richards said, "you must never, ever say that you are just an Agent, John, you are very important to this
Company.
The book is published by; Prentice Hall
in 1960.
I was only 21 years old at the time, and not very successful. I was still very unsure whether the Insurance
business would be a long term career for me.
Of course, the moment I got home, I ran out to the local book store and purchased "Success Through A Positive Mental
Attitude." And a strange thing happened. I just couldn't put this book down. Chapter after chapter, revealed intriguing,
and inspiring stories, of rags to riches, and failures that became tremendous successes. These actual stories and
insights, into the personal encounters of various individuals, that magically transformed their lives into
successes, was just what a 21 year old struggling salesman needed.
The rest is history. My attitude improved tremendously. My confidence was lifted to new heights. I realized for the
first time, that I was not merely selling policies, but I was helping families by guaranteeing their financial future, and
the future of their children.
I slowly and systematically became a self confident power house. Where nothing, nor no one, could put out the fire of
enthusiasm that was burning inside of me.
Never looking back, and only moving ahead. Not caring at all about money, although I was earning more, and more, every
passing week. My sales was pushing me right to the top of the Production Sales Report. Even though I had no interest in
Sales Reports, and I was only concerned with helping more families to protect their future. I had managed to help
myself, by helping others. It didn't even feel like work, to me, at this point.
From an Agent, I was promoted to a Sales Manager, in charge of a staff of Agents. Then from a Sales Manager, I was
promoted to the District Manager. And at age 27, I now was the youngest District Manager ever, for Chubb Colonial Life,
and running the entire Agency. As a District Manager, our Agency was always near the top of the company's sales charts
of leading Agencies.
The personal insights of those great men, such as Henry Ford, Edison, Einstein, Fuller, and Milo C. Jones, of Jones

"More Than A Man"

He is more than a man,
who lifts another up,
who convinces us all that we can,
and inspires greatness - through his giving.

Who plants a seed of hope,
deep in someone else,
then watches it blossom and grow.
Someone who never lets you down.
No, he is more than a man.

He is someone to lean on,
though he may not be near.
And just the thought of his belief,
can help us master our fear.

He is, which inspires us to be.
Our faith endures,
with his enthusiasm as our memory.
Yes, he is more than a man,
he is the messenger of our inspiration.

BEST NEW SELF HELP BOOK: "Awesome Success Principles"

**What's It All About Alfie?**
*************************
Step back and look at life closely:
(from my NEW published self help book) "AWESOME SUCCESS PRINCIPLES"
http://www.amazon.com/Awesome-Success-Principles-Quotations-Carinci-ebook/dp/B00MRLXK9S/ref=sr_1_1_title_1_kin?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1411849957&sr=1-1&keywords=carinci
