"Enthusiasm"

 from my upcoming book

“The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. To be your own man is a hard business. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.”
― Rudyard Kipling

The truly enthusiastic individual is a very special breed. Oh, sure, there are ...those individuals who may appear to many as being enthusiastic. But the really special individual has a way of maintaining their enthusiasm no matter what is thrown at them. That is the person that attains greatness. That is the person that stands out from the crowd. That is the person that will amaze everyone with achievements that are normally considered impossible.
I like to think of the truly enthusiastic individual as someone who has the ability to apply Mental Blinders on themselves. Just like the race horse that is sometimes equipped with blinders that will block out all distractions all around them, the person that applies their own Mental Blinders, blocks out all the negativity all around themselves.
It is estimated that over 80% of all talk around us is negative. Many people are dweling on the negatives in the world rather than the positives. Ther have always, from the beginning of time, been negative things in the world. The true winner knows how to block out the negative influences all around them I know I have made a practice of secretly raising my protective Mental Blinders whenever I hear that poisonous negative talk that someone will continue the spew. I cannot change every person around me, and I have no right to limit someone’s opinions and frustrations, but I can block the absorbance of that negativity from penetrating my subconscious mind.
This is what I have practiced over my lifetime. So, try to apply your own Mental Blinders the next time someone is relentlessly talking and active negative around you. It is like a shield. My secret shield protects and maintains my positive drive to achieve my current goal.

“Don't compare yourself with anyone in this world...if you do so, you are insulting yourself.”
― Bill Gates

“Everyone has his own specific vocation or mission in life; everyone must carry out a concrete assignment that demands fulfillment. Therein he cannot be replaced, nor can his life be repeated, thus, everyone's task is unique as his specific opportunity to implement it.”
― Victor Frankl

Derek Jeter all-consuming desire to win

(Excerpt from my upcoming self help book. THIS PART IS about Derek Jeter)
As I am writing this book I have been just informed that one of my favorite baseball players of all time will be retiring this year. Derek Jeter, the Yankee shortstop... for some 20 years announced today that he will call it quits with the close of the 2014 baseball season. Derek has always been a fan favorite, and the picture perfect player that Yankee fans had come to expect.
Derek never had any kind of controversy surrounding him. He never had any bad press. And even the umpires loved him, and that says something about a baseball player after 20 years.
Derek is the perfect example of a truly enthusiastic individual that is driven to reach his goals, unaffected by negativity that surrounds all of us.
Derek was born on June, 26, 1974, in N.J. He was drafted by the N. Y. Yankees in 1992. He began playing major league on May, 29, 1995. On June 3, 2003, Yankee owner, George Steinbrenner, named Derek the captain of the Yankees baseball team. Derek was one of his favorite baseball players ever.
Over his almost 20 year Yankee career, Derek played in 38 World Series games. He won 5 separate World Series championships. He was selected 13 times to play in the annual All-Star games. To date he has 3,316 hits, which places him at #10 on the list of players with the most baseball hits ever.
On October 13, 2012, Derek breaks his ankle, but not his spirit. Derek, with that all consuming desire to succeed still fought back, like the winner he has always been.
He played very few games in the 2013 season because of the ankle, and has been rehabilitating since. He expects in the 2014 season to be able to play. All fans will keep their fingers crossed for the player we all admire. The player we all wish we could be , for the best of all the baseball teams ever, the New York Yankees.
Part Of Derek’s announcement to fans
“I want to start by saying thank you.
I know they say that when you dream you eventually wake up. Well, for some reason, I’ve never had to wake up. Not just because of my time as a New York Yankee but also because I am living my dream every single day.
Last year was a tough one for me. As I suffered through a bunch of injuries, I realized that some of the things that always came easily to me and were always fun had started to become a struggle. The one thing I always said to myself was that when baseball started to feel more like a job, it would be time to move forward.
So really it was months ago when I realized that this season would likely be my last. As I came to this conclusion and shared it with my friends and family, they all told me to hold off saying anything until I was absolutely 100% sure.
And the thing is, I could not be more sure. I know it in my heart. The 2014 season will be my last year playing professional baseball.”
I’ve experienced so many defining moments in my career. Winning the World Series as a rookie shortstop, being named the Yankees captain, closing the old and opening the new Yankee Stadium. Through it all, I’ve never stopped chasing the next one.”
--Derek Jeter

**What’s It All About Alfie?**

(from my NEW self help book - soon be released)
It seems like everyone’s life today is so busy. It’s like we’re all riding on an out of control train that is speeding down a track, so fast we can’t get off. N...o one seems to have any spare time for anything, its rush here and rush there. People drive so fast these days, not because they are late, but rather they have too much going on in their lives.
People wonder, “What’s It All About Alfie?” What am I doing here? What is my purpose? And what happens after life on earth?
I study people closely. Many people today seem uncertain, frustrated and scared about the times we are in. They are looking for answers. Religion of any kind can help.
I Believe
I have my own strong beliefs. I believe in God. I believe that we were all created to be great. Some of us along the way have gotten off track with our thinking, but we can once again get back in the game.
I believe that we were each put on earth to make a difference of some kind. We were put here to help, to be a positive influence, and touch other lives. We are here to give back, not to keep taking. To lift someone up and never tear them down.
I believe that life on earth is very short. Shorter than what the average age of 85 works out to be in our minds. In other words, eternity is what we will ultimately have after life on earth.
I believe that we are given the opportunity to build a life here on earth, and one day we each will have to make a full accounting of that life, answering completely.
What if, my beliefs hold true? What if we all get to spend an eternity in the hereafter with all our loved ones? What if we get to review in precise detail, with our loved ones, each second of our lives? We have a scorecard here on earth, one most of us seem to ignore. But what if I am right, and we have to explain all of our actions, achievements, good deeds, charity, and help extended to others? What if?
I believe that everything on earth happens for a reason. Though sometimes sad things in life are very hard to understand and explain, they are here for our learning. When a child dies so young. When I come across a paralyzed man named Ken, who has been in a wheelchair for over 20 years, and can’t move most of his body, it is for a reason. When I hear just the other day that a 36 year old woman, eight months pregnant, is run down and killed in a parking lot by a plow removing snow, and the baby is delivered, but may be brain damaged.
When I lose a school friend of mine Gil, who dies in a car accident, at age 19, and I have to deliver my first insurance death claim as a first year life insurance agent. It is all for a reason. I believe.
I believe that everything that happens on earth is God’s plan to help us stay on track. To remind us that life on earth is but a second in time compared to the eternity we will all have after our life here is closed, and the diaries of our lives are each passed up to the place we will consider Heaven.
My belief is strong, but it is my own belief. It gives me peace. It drives me forward, motivating me to do more, to be more, to help more. But more than anything, I believe, with all my heart, that all my loved ones that have passed are rooting loudly for me in the hereafter. I believe I have an audience that I will once again be reunited with. But, I mostly believe that my biggest fan, from above, is God, and I cannot, I dare not disappoint Him. He created greatness when you and I were born, I will not insult him by giving Him back anything but greatness in return. C-2014 John P. Carinci
