I have often thought that the best way to define a man’s character would
be to seek out the particular mental or moral attitude in which, when it
came upon him, he felt himself most deeply and intensely active and alive.
At such moments, there is a voice inside which speaks and says: “This is the
real me!”
—William James

"To protect their livestock from cattle rustlers, cattlemen would
put their own markings onto their cattle by branding them. This
guaranteed that, if the cattle were stolen, they could prove which were
their own cattle.
Similarly, we can put our own enthusiasm-branding into the
subconscious minds of other individuals. This enthusiasm can last
within other individuals for their lifetime.
Attitude is paramount when we discuss the long road to success.
Without maintaining a positive attitude throughout the long journey,
we will never achieve success. It is the powerful emotion of enthusiasm
that carries us forward and across the finish line of any worthwhile
goal—indeed, that carries us through a lifetime of success. We each have
choices in life. We choose a positive or a negative attitude. We choose
to be enthusiastic or blasé. And we subconsciously choose failure or
success. Because we radiate our emotions to everyone with whom we
come in contact, we, in turn, can influence others with our enthusiasm
and zest for life, or tear others down with a negative attitude. We may
not be fully aware of what we are projecting to others.
Sometimes our attitudes are influenced by all the actions and
activities we encounter each day. But our attitude is still our
choice, and
that must remain in the forefront of our conscious mind. The enthusiastic
person clearly stands out from all others. The enthusiastic person attracts
others the way a light source attracts insects. And over time, it is the truly
enthusiastic person who has a lasting effect on other individuals."
